Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about our Spanish lessons, materials, and how to get started.

What types of classes do you offer?

I offer private tailor-made lessons (one-to-one or duo) and conversation packages (one-to-one, duo, or small group up to 4 people). For children and teenagers (ages 6–17), lessons are also available as trio (up to 3 students).

Tailor-made lessons are fully personalised to your level and goals. Duo lessons are perfect for learning with a partner or friend. Conversation packages are designed for students who already have a foundation in Spanish and want to build fluency.

Visit our course pages for current pricing and packages.

Do you offer lessons for children?

Yes. I offer private Spanish lessons for children and teenagers ages 6 to 17. This includes lessons for children who have already had contact with the Spanish language and wish to improve their level, as well as for those who are starting from scratch.

I also offer literacy lessons specifically designed for bilingual or heritage speakers who speak Spanish at home but need support with reading and writing. All content is adapted to each child's age, interests, and learning style, keeping lessons engaging and age-appropriate while building solid language skills.

How long do the classes last?

Private tailor-made lessons for adults last 60 minutes once per week. Private conversation lessons for adults last 50 minutes once per week. Private tailor-made lessons for children last 50 minutes once per week.

All lessons take place on a weekly basis, which allows for consistent progress and regular practice. Scheduling is flexible within Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 19:00, so we can find a time that fits your routine.

Are all the classes online?

All lesson formats — private, duo, and small-group conversation — can be done online or face-to-face in Haarlem Centrum (Anegang 31A). The Haarlem location is right in the city centre, easily reachable by bus, train, or bicycle.

Online lessons take place via Google Meet, so you can join from anywhere in the world. Whether you prefer the personal connection of a face-to-face lesson or the flexibility of learning from home, I adapt the lesson format to suit your needs.

What do I need for my online lessons?

All you need is a computer, an email account, headphones with a microphone, and a good internet connection. A quiet space where you can speak freely is recommended to get the most out of your lesson.

We use Google Meet as our video conferencing platform, which is completely free — you do not need to install any software or create a separate account. Just click the link I send you before each lesson. Google Meet works directly in your browser on any computer or tablet. For privacy, lessons are never recorded.

You will also receive all learning materials digitally, so there is no need to print anything. If you prefer face-to-face lessons instead, those are available at our location in Haarlem Centrum (Anegang 31A).

Will we only speak Spanish in class?

Yes. We will use Spanish whenever possible because I believe the best way to learn a language is by using it. However, the amount of Spanish we use is adapted to your level. Beginners will hear more English or Dutch explanations so that grammar and vocabulary are fully understood, while intermediate and advanced students work almost entirely in Spanish. As your confidence grows, the immersion increases naturally. This gradual approach helps you build fluency faster without the frustration of feeling lost. I speak English and I am learning Dutch, so support in either language is always available when you need it.

Will we use any handbook?

In structured long-term courses we use the AULA INTERNACIONAL PLUS handbook as a reference, which follows CEFR progression from A1 to C1. The price of the manual is not included in the course fee. I supplement the handbook with real-world materials such as articles, videos, podcasts, and exercises tailored to your interests. All additional material is free of charge.

For conversation lessons, no handbook is needed. I prepare all content based on current topics and themes you choose, and everything is included in the price of the lesson. This keeps conversations relevant, engaging, and connected to real life.

How do I start?

The first step is to book a free 30-minute Intake Session. This session can be done online or in person in Haarlem. During the intake, I will assess your current Spanish level and discuss your goals, interests, and preferred schedule. Based on this conversation, I will recommend the lesson type that best fits your needs.

There is no obligation and no cost — it is simply a chance for you to ask questions and see if Spanish Planet School is the right fit. After the intake, your first regular lesson can usually start within a week.

For more details, visit the Intake Session page.

How are the lessons paid for?

Tailor-made lessons are paid at the end of the month. I send a clear overview of the lessons given, so you always know exactly what you are paying for. Conversation packages are paid in advance through bank transfer or via Tikkie.

Payment is simple and straightforward — no VAT is charged on language lessons in the Netherlands. The initial intake session is completely free, so you can get started without any financial commitment. If you have questions about pricing or payment, I am happy to explain everything during your intake.

Do the conversation packages expire?

Yes. All conversation packages have a six-month expiration from the date of purchase. Packages are available in bundles of 4, 8, or 12 lessons, and the six-month window gives you plenty of flexibility to schedule them at your own pace. Longer packages offer a lower per-lesson rate — visit the conversation lessons page for details. If the lessons are not used within six months, they expire and cannot be carried over. This policy ensures regular practice, which is key to making real progress in your Spanish.

Can I cancel a class or reschedule a lesson?

If you need to cancel a class or reschedule, send me an email at victoria@spanishplanetschool.com at least 24 hours before the scheduled start of your lesson, and we will find a new day and time that works for both of us.

Cancelled lessons with proper notice can always be rescheduled. If you do not let me know in time or do not show up, the full amount of the lesson will be charged.

Is your question not in this list?
